“Personally, I chose to follow the route of laser hair removal because I find shaving a chore, and I could never get a completely clean looking shave with a razor.
I also tried for six desperate months to grow a beard during my first year of college. The results were lackluster at best. I realized I wouldn’t miss my facial hair one bit. Successful hair growth in the future lacked potential. I’m tired of dealing with the frustration, the decision to seek a permanent solution was a no brainer.”
While a single laser hair removal is a long term solution, it normally requires a touch up treatment but only on a occasion . Another reason to consider laser hair removal is for those really hard to reach places that are frustrating and difficult to shave.
How it works:
Ready to Get Your Face Burnt off by Lasers? If not, then you better avoid the sun.
Getting laser hair removal does require a few precautions in order to make sure one has a successful and flawless procedure. One, stay out of direct sunlight. Two, wear sunscreen At All Times. No exceptions.
The reason for sunscreen is that sunlight activates the production of melanin in your skin, which, in turn, will increase the ease that laser will positively affect your skin.
In addition, no waxing or tweezing prior to laser hair removal, as that can cause hair to be missed. Especially when it comes to the more dense areas, however, you should shave the night prior to your appointment to ensure an effective Laser Treatment.
We also would like to answer some of the most common questions about Laser Hair Removal.
Question: Is laser hair removal for all hair types?
Answer: Yes, Laser Hair Removal can be used on all skin types but will require a different type of Laser to treat darker skin tones. In our practice we use Nd-Yag Laser for darker skin tones that works safely and as effective as commonly used BBL. All the precautions and operations for Laser treatments will be the same for any skin type..
Question: Is Laser Hair Removal permanent?.
Answer: As a general rule every treatment will reduce hair by 10%.so in a course of six to eight treatments the majority of your hair will be removed. Most of the time you will not need to shave in between treatments.
Question: Is Laser Hair Removal painful?
Answer: Laser hair removal pain can be compared to a rubber band snap. If no numbing medicine is used. Numbing medicine is used to make treatment more relaxing: It’s significantly less painful than waxing (for sure).
Question: how long does a single treatment take?
Answer: It depends on the area treated. For example, smaller areas like underarms only take 15 minutes larger areas like full leg hair removal can take approximately 45 minutes and full body laser hair removal would take about 2 hours. It is recommended to bring earphones for the longer treatments and enjoy music.
Question: Does Laser Hair Removal work for ingrown hair?
Answer: Yes this is a great application of a Laser treatment. Destroying hair follicles eliminate the problem altogether.
Question: Is there any time during the treatment course that sunbathing or just some sun exposure is acceptable while on vacation?
Answer: If you’d like to plan a vacation during your treatment course the best time to do so would be right after the treatment as it allows you more time before the next Laser Hair Removal. If you are truly committed to excellent results you would need a course of 8 treatments 4- 6 weeks apart. Overall the treatments would take close to a year. So we recommend to plan your treatments shortly before your vacation or sunbathing. As always, we recommend that you apply your sunblock.
Question: Can makeup be applied immediately after a treatment?
Answer: If you come during your work day and would like to go back to work you can reapply makeup immediately after. There maybe some redness that will subside after 20 to 30 minutes. In addition, applying calming lotion reduces redness time.
So, in conclusion, Laser Hair Removal is at great choice for those who are busy or tired of spending money on razors. It will permanently remove most of the hair leaving your skin free of shadows and bumps – in other words POLISHED 🙂
What Everyone Needs to Know About Laser Hair Removal
As the name implies, Laser Hair Removal is the process of burning away unwanted hair and inhibiting future hair growth with the use of high powered laser pulses. The treatment is based on the principle that certain wavelengths of light can be used in such a way that the light “targets” the pigment in your hair while minimizing the energy imparted to your skin. In doing so, the laser burns the hair down into the follicle, while additional energy works to decrease follicle size which results in less regrowth. The procedure can take only minutes depending on the area treated while the results can last for months or even years. However, full removal of the hair in a given area typically requires multiple treatments, as some follicles will be at the point in their life cycle where they don’t grow hair, and thus aren’t targeted by the laser. These dormant hair follicles see growth within about a month over the course of their natural lifecycle, after which a follow up treatment is required to treat the newly born hairs.
Considering how convenient it is, I find it no surprise that laser hair removal is one of the most common aesthetic procedures performed today. I’ve always wanted a more permanent solution to my facial hair rather than having to shave every day, so 20 weeks ago I got the procedure done at MetaGlow, the clinic where I work.
I can attest to the competence of a certified medical practitioner, but that doesn’t make it any less important to be an informed patient. That’s why the first step before deciding on any medical procedure should be to educate yourself to the best of your ability. Learn as much as you can about how to prepare for your procedure, what it entails, what reactions you should look out for after treatment, and what to expect of the results. This article is intended to explain just that and more.
Who Can Get Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is most effective when done on light skin with dark hair. The closer your skin and hair color are to one another, the higher your risk of pain, irritation, or discoloration from the procedure. Hair colors that don’t readily absorb light-including: red, blonde, white, and gray–will also increase the risk of skin irritation in the treated area. However, specific wavelengths of lasers are used to tailor the procedure to each patient and minimize these effects. But as always, you should talk to your practitioner before the procedure to ensure they’ll be able to treat you adequately.
How to Prepare
Prior to getting a laser procedure done, it’s important to keep your skin protected from the sun. Be sure to keep the treatment area out of direct sunlight for at least two weeks prior to the procedure (or as instructed by your doctor), and wear sunscreen every time you do expect sun exposure. Any amount of UV exposure can activate the production of melanin in your skin, which increases your risk of irritation, discoloration, and burns. Even so much as walking down your driveway to pick up the mail will imperceptibly affect your skin. Artificial tanning methods such as tanning beds or tanning creams will similarly increase your risk of side effects.
Also, be sure to shave the treatment area about a day before the procedure. This ensures that any long, burnt hairs won’t damage the skin, as well as preventing the area from being obstructed by bushy hair.
Also be sure to avoid alternative forms of hair removal at least four weeks prior to treatment. Methods such as plucking, waxing, and electrolysis all remove hair from the follicle, which prevents the follicle from being treated.
And finally, it’s recommended that you avoid taking blood thinning or anti inflammatory medications a week before the procedure if possible. However, you should definitely speak with your doctor before you stop taking any prescription strength meds to make sure there’s no undue health risk in doing so.
What it Entails
Now that you know how to prepare your body for the life changing experience of laser hair removal, let’s prepare your mind. There’s no denying the anticipation that surrounds a mysterious medical procedure, and the only way to get rid of the anticipation is to get rid of the mystery.
Laser hair removal typically entails a doctor or other licensed laser specialist who will prep you for the procedure. Oftentimes, they’ll take a couple pictures of the treatment area to compare to future regrowth and monitor progress. Then, if the face is being treated, you’ll have to wear a hair net to prevent the hair you want to keep from getting burned, and you may have to change into a gown depending on the area to be treated.
Once you’re on the bed, your practitioner may put numbing cream or cooling gel on the treatment area to minimize pain during the procedure. However, pain should be minimal regardless, typically compared to getting snapped with a rubber band over and over, and often described to be less painful than waxing. During the actual procedure, you’ll put on a pair of protective goggles, then the laser will be positioned above the skin, held there for a moment as a bright flash of light is emitted onto the treatment area, and then repositioned until the entire treatment area is covered. This whole part of the process can take anywhere from a couple minutes to over an hour, depending on how large of an area you have to cover. After this step, the procedure at large is complete, and all that’s left to do is get an ice pack to deal with discomfort. Any immediate reactions, such as swelling or discoloration, will be examined by your practitioner, but if you have any concerns, don’t be afraid to speak up! After the procedure, your practitioner should discuss all needed aftercare or other precautions to ensure a smooth recovery.
Generally, aftercare for hair removal just means avoiding sunlight in just the same way you did prior to treatment. However, certain individuals may need further care, such as a prescription steroid cream to reduce swelling, or follow up visits to treat a discolored spot.
